Stop Your STI Wing From Bouncing and Add WRC-Inspired Styling in 15 Minutes
The factory rear wing on the 2002-2007 Subaru WRX STI is an iconic piece of performance styling, but at highway speeds it flexes, bounces, and loses its ability to generate consistent downforce. The Perrin PSP-BDY-100BK Wing Stabilizer slips between the wing and trunk lid to brace the wing against vertical movement, eliminating that distracting bounce and giving your STI spoiler a cleaner, more aggressive WRC-inspired profile. Sold individually, each PSP-BDY-100BK installs without tools in under 20 minutes using the included 3M adhesive strips and optional M4 mounting screws.
What the PSP-BDY-100BK Does for Your STI Wing
Wing flex is not just an aesthetic annoyance. At speed, an unsupported factory wing loses its fixed angle of attack, reducing the effective downforce it generates and creating aerodynamic noise. The PSP-BDY-100BK fills the gap between the underside of the wing and the trunk lid, adding a structural brace that holds the wing rigid and keeps it planted at its intended angle. The airfoil-tapered cross section also reduces drag compared to leaving the gap open.
- Molded from high-grade black plastic with a textured OEM-style finish
- Airfoil taper reduces drag and eliminates aerodynamic noise from the wing gap
- Fits directly between the factory STI wing and trunk lid with no cutting or trimming
- Paintable surface accepts standard automotive paint for a color-matched finish
- Secured with supplied 3M VHB adhesive strips, fully reversible without damage
- Optional M4x22mm screws provide additional mechanical retention for track use
- Can be used as a single center stabilizer or in multiples for a more aggressive WRC appearance
- Up to 3 units can be bolted in using factory wing bolt holes; additional units use adhesive only

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does the Perrin PSP-BDY-100BK wing stabilizer actually do?
A: It braces the factory STI rear wing against vertical flex and bounce. The stabilizer fits between the underside of the wing and the trunk lid, creating a rigid connection that keeps the wing at its designed angle of attack at all speeds.
Q: How many PSP-BDY-100BK stabilizers do I need?
A: One stabilizer is enough to reduce wing flex and keep the wing stable. Two stabilizers give a more aggressive WRC-inspired appearance. Up to three can be bolted in using the factory wing bolt holes; additional units beyond three require adhesive-only mounting and spacing adjustments.
Q: Does installation require drilling?
A: Not for a standard adhesive-only install. The included 3M VHB strips bond the stabilizer to the wing and trunk lid without any drilling. If you want to use the optional M4 mounting screws for additional retention, small pilot holes are required through the wing skin at the pre-marked locations on the stabilizer.
Q: Will the PSP-BDY-100BK damage my paint or wing when removed?
A: The 3M VHB adhesive is designed to be reversible. Slow, even pressure while twisting slightly releases the adhesive without damaging paint. Allow the adhesive to cure for 72 hours before removal and avoid excessive force.
Q: Can I paint the PSP-BDY-100BK to match my car?
A: Yes. The stabilizer comes in a textured black finish that accepts standard automotive spray paint. Light sanding and a plastic adhesion promoter are recommended before painting for best adhesion.
Q: Does this fit the 2002-2003 WRX or WRX STI?
A: Perrin confirms fitment for the 2004-2007 GD-chassis STI with the factory STI rear wing. The 2002-2003 WRX uses a different wing design. Contact Perrin directly to confirm compatibility if you have a pre-2004 car.
Q: Will this fit an aftermarket wing?
A: The PSP-BDY-100BK is designed specifically for the factory Subaru STI OEM rear wing profile. Fitment on aftermarket wings depends on the wing design and may require modification. Perrin does not guarantee fitment on non-OEM wings.
Q: What is the warranty on the Perrin PSP-BDY-100BK?
A: Perrin covers the PSP-BDY-100BK under their standard limited manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Contact Perrin Performance directly for warranty claims.
Installation Overview
The PSP-BDY-100BK installs in 15 to 20 minutes with no special tools. Adhesive-only installation is the most common approach and fully reversible. Using the optional screws adds mechanical retention for track use.
- Clean the underside of the wing and the trunk lid surface with isopropyl alcohol or denatured alcohol to remove all wax, grease, and dust.
- Test-fit the stabilizer between the wing and trunk lid. Adjust the wing angle front-to-back so the stabilizer curves sit flush against both surfaces with no gap.
- Use masking tape to mark the stabilizer position on both the wing underside and the trunk lid.
- Apply the included 3M VHB adhesive strips to the upper and lower surfaces of the stabilizer. Do not remove the clear liner yet.
- Fold back a small corner of the clear liner on the lower tape strip to create a pull tab.
- Reposition the stabilizer using the masking tape marks as a guide. While holding it in place, slowly pull the lower clear liner out to bond the stabilizer to the trunk lid.
- Double-check alignment, then slowly pull the upper clear liner to bond the stabilizer to the wing underside.
- Press firmly on the stabilizer for approximately 20 seconds. The 3M adhesive will be 75 percent bonded after 2 hours and fully cured after 72 hours. Keep the vehicle out of rain and car washes during this period.
- If using the optional M4 screws: drill 11/64 inch pilot holes through the wing at the locations marked by small crosshairs on the stabilizer upper surface. Install screws using a 3mm hex key. Do not overtighten.
- Remove all masking tape and inspect alignment from all angles before the adhesive fully cures.
